East Side Loses in OT (AGAIN)

It’s not a misprint or Deja vu, East Side once again lost in OT. This young group has found ways to lose games instead of closing out the show. The kids need to commit themselves to winning to change these close loses into victories. The road does not get any easier in the Watchung Conference and perennial power Linden awaits next.

Chandler is out with a stress fracture

East Side’s own Corey Chandler will be out an undisclosed amount of time with a foot injury. We will obviously miss Corey a great deal," said Rutgers head coach Fred Hill. "The health and well being of our players is always our paramount concern.

Chandler has started all but one game so far and has been one of the best offensive weapons for the Scarlet Knights all season. The injury has hampered him as of late, although he continued to take the floor and gut it out. However, Chandler can't pinpoint the exact moment when the injury occurred.

"I don't know what happened," Chandler said. "Three games ago I messed my feet up." The pain finally caught up with Chandler against the Tar Heels as the injury forced him to the bench at the start of the second half. Yet, Chandler gutted it out and went on to score 13 points while playing during the second half in pain.

"I didn't even warm up in the second half because of the pain," said Chandler. "I ran to the bench and took off my sneakers to get some air. Then, I came out in the second half and played pretty good."

Chandler has been the center of Rutgers offense for much of the season as the freshman is unafraid to use his arsenal of moves on the offensive end of the floor.

ALSO: Rutgers Student-Athletes are participating in a week-long toy and book drive at several local Head Start Programs. Wednesday, members of the men's basketball team, baseball team and women's track and field team delivered toys and books to the Head Start sites in North Plainfield and Edison. Representatives from several of the athletic programs plan to visit more local Head Start programs tomorrow as part of the department’s Holiday Toy and Book Drive.

Chandler Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers freshman Corey Chandler (Newark, N.J.) was today named to the BIG EAST Conference weekly men's basketball honor roll. The guard averaged 19.0 points and 6.0 rebounds on the week for the Scarlet Knights, including a 23-point, eight rebound performance on national television versus No. 1 North Carolina Sunday evening.
Chandler began the week by sinking all nine of his free throw attempts en route to a team-high 15 points in a 65-55 win over NJIT Thursday evening at the Prudential Center. The victory provided the Scarlet Knights their first road win of the season. Chandler's charity stripe performance against the Highlanders marked the most free throws made by a Rutgers player in a game since Quincy Douby went 10-of-12 in an 82-78 victory over Seton Hall at the RAC on Jan. 7, 2006.
Versus the Tar Heels, Chandler was 8-for-17 from the floor to produce his second performance of 20 points or more in the past three games (25 at Nebraska, 12/9).
Chandler has scored in double-figures nine times this season and has led Rutgers in scoring on four occasions. He ranks 20th in the BIG EAST in scoring with a 14.1 points-per-game average and places tied for eighth in the league in steals, with 2.0 thefts per contest.
Chandler is the second Scarlet Knight to earn inclusion on the league honor roll this season. Junior forward JR Inman (Pomona, N.Y.) was recognized on the first honor roll of the 2007-08 campaign after helping RU to its 3-1 start.
Rutgers (7-4), under the leadership of second year head coach Fred Hill, next hits the hardwood versus Rider at the RAC in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off this Friday.
