Middle Tennessee Head Basketball Coach Kermit Davis and his family were guest speakers at the 8th Annual Special Kids Friendraiser Banquet at Calvary Baptist Church Tuesday. A record crowd of more than 500 attended the event. It's great to see a former East Side player involved with helping out the community.

Player Profile: Eddie Brown

Name: Eddie Brown
School: Newark East Side
Class: 2009
Height: 6’6
Position: Foward
AAU Team: NJ Roadrunners

Analysis: Eddie is an extremely hard worker on the court. This summer he traveled with the NJ Roadrunners AAU team and did very well. His play at the 16 and under AAU nationals yielded him interest from Belmont University in Tenn. Eddie needs to hit the weight room harder and commit himself more to being the best player he can be. It’s all in front of him to achieve it.

Player Profile : Demetrius Smith

Mike Melton

Name: Demetrius Smith
School: Newark East Side
Class: 2009
Height: 6’0
Position: Combo Guard
AAU Team: NJ Road Runners

Analysis: Smith is a strong combo guard that uses his strength and scoring ability to man handle defenders. He plays with a lot of energy but will need to keep it under control as he progresses. Smith like other young players will need to commit himself more on the defensive end. If he makes the true transition to point guard his recruitment should pick up.

College Projection: Low Division 1, Mid Major
