Another Scoring Threat

PISCATAWAY, N.J. –After a slow start, Corey Chandler is heating up. The sophomore guard reached double figures for the third time in the last four contests and sixth time this season.
“I’m a threat absolutely,” said Chandler minutes after the Scarlet Knights dropped an 81-76 decision to No. 18 Marquette. “We have three guards out there and we go out every night to be aggressive. And they keyed in on Mike (Rosario). They had to because he’s our best shooter. You have to step up. I was put in a position to make shots early on and I got it going.”

Chandler referred to veteran point guard Anthony Farmer and Rosario, the true freshman out of St. Anthony’s of Jersey City, who faced single and double teams from the Golden Eagles defense.

In the meantime, Chandler poured in 12 of his 16 points in the first half, adding six rebounds and two assists off the bench.

But, Marquette jumped out to a 21-point lead after intermission before a thunderous rally by Rutgers fell just short.

“I think we just lacked on defense and we put ourselves in a hole,” Chandler said.

He went a bit further.

“I’m not playing Corey Chandler basketball, because if I was playing Corey Chandler basketball, we’d be winning, and when we win, you’ll see.”
